The New York-based designer is putting his eponymous label on pause.
Designer Wes Gordon is taking a break from his eponymous line.
The New York-based designer is joining Carolina Herrera as a consultant. “We are simply working on a few projects with him. He is working on bridal,” a rep for Herrera told Page Six. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Herrera's team for additional comments.
Meanwhile, Gordon is putting his namesake label, which he launched in 2009, on hold as he figures out his company's new business model, reports WWD. Gordon added that “the company still exists,” though he'll be giving up his lease for his Nassau Street offices in Manhattan. A rep for Gordon did not immediately respond to THR's request for comment.
Gordon, known for his romantic creations, was one of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists in 2014. His red-carpet-ready designs were favored by such stars as Rashida Jones, Ciara and Jessica Alba.
Gordon is the latest designer to halt his own project in exchange for another gig. Hood by Air announced last week that the label would be “on hiatus” as founder Shayne Oliver works on a design collaboration with Helmut Lang.
The hiring of Gordon comes at a tumultuous time for the American fashion house of Herrera. In December, Herrera filed a lawsuit against Oscar de la Renta preventing that brand from hiring one of her employees, Laura Kim, until her non-compete had expired. Kim had been in talks to take over as creative director with Herrera being transitioned out of the role. But according to an affidavit filed on behalf of Kim, Herrera wasn't aware that anyone had been hired to succeed her.
Only time will tell if Gordon will end up transitioning into a more permanent role as creative director of Herrera. As for now, he squashed any speculation, telling WWD, “That's never even been discussed.”
