Inside Dolce & Gabbana’s Millennial Cocktail Party in L.A., Mocktails and $7,000 Headphones Rule

“One of the biggest misconceptions about [millennials] is that we’re always on our phones and we don’t pay attention,” said Zendaya, who joined Cameron Dallas and Rafferty Law at the soiree.

They may be young, but the Dolce & Gabbana millennials are mature beyond their years.

The Italian fashion house’s resident #DGMillennial crew, including Zendaya, Cameron Dallas, musician sisters/Beyonce proteges Chloe and Halle Bailey, Rafferty Law (son of Jude Law), Brandon Lee (son of Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee) and two-thirds of the Stallone sisters (daughters of Sylvester Stallone) made their way to Beverly Hills on Thursday evening for a cocktail hour at the brand’s Rodeo Drive storefront, followed by an after-party at the legendary Bootsy Bellows night club, where dancers dressed as felines were slinking their way through the space.

Though the scene included all the necessary ingredients for a rowdy, good time (good looking people in head-to-toe designer digs, loud music, a velvet rope, etc.), the well-dressed guests were also incredibly well-behaved, eloquently speaking of their passion projects, the stereotypes of their generation and finding their voices through social media.

“One of the biggest misconceptions about [millennials] is that we’re always on our phones and we don’t pay attention,” said the always eloquent Zendaya, who attended the soiree with THR Power Stylist, Law Roach. “But I also think that the upside to having these phones is being able to communicate and have a conversation. Sometimes we use it to our advantage.”

The sentiment was echoed by the Bailey sisters, who lamented that the under-30 generation is often underestimated or written off as social media addicts. “Our minds are so fresh and we have all these new ideas,” said Halle. “We’re not afraid to use our voices and the one thing I love about social media is that we’re able to voice our opinions and really make a change.”

The (mostly) underage crew sipped on non-alcoholic mocktails and nibbled on prosciutto and mozzarella sliders while Lee, 20, and his girlfriend, Pyper Smith, also 20, (whose family band, The Atomics, is playing Coachella just a few weeks from now) played DJ, spinning everything from Biggie Smalls and Tupac to The Gap Band’s “You Dropped the Bomb on Me.”

“We met last year at the YSL show at The Palladium,” noted Lee of how the couple first got to know each other as friends, before they evolved into the dance-y couple at the DJ booth who couldn’t keep their hands off each other. “We’re at the same agency so we were doing a lot of the same things together, and I thought, ‘She is way too hot just to be my friend,” he added of their romance’s chic beginnings.

When the party moved to Bootsy Bellows, Law took over as DJ, sporting the infamous $7k bejeweled Dolce & Gabbana headphones as he played hits by Jamie XX, D.R.A.M. and Vince Staples. Guests continued to arrive into the 10 o'clock hour, though the dance floor remained sparse save for the older crowd, including 26-year-old actor Diego Boneta and 34-year-old man-about-town Derek Blasberg. The dancers took on a pinkish hue thanks to the glow of the neon pink Bootsy Bellows sign, as well as a matching “Dolce & Gabbana” sign which was hung on the wall over the hashtag decals that encouraged guests to tag “#DGMillennials.” A brightly lit photo booth near the entrance, though a popular pick for non-famous guests decked out in the gifted D&G shades, wasn't a top priority for the millennials.

For the mild-mannered Law, 20, music is more than just a DJ side gig. “I have a collective in London which is promoting underground, up-and-coming artists, musicians and fashion designers,” he said causally while waving to pal Dallas as the latter arrived at the bash. “It’s been really fun, we all keep in touch,” he added of the #DGMillennial crew’s family vibe. (Dallas, too, said that his latest focus is music, but was tight-lipped on the subject otherwise.)

The #DGMillennials have been the focus of the Italian brand's marketing efforts since 2016, appearing everywhere from fashion shows (they were seated front row at the spring 2017 show in September, but were promoted to catwalkers for the fall 2017 show this past February), to parties, to ad campaigns. While traveling and shooting together, the crew, which also includes influencers Luka Sabbat and more celeb spawn, including Cindy Crawford's kids Presley and Kaia Gerber and Lionel Richie's daughter Sofia, has become a tight-knit young family.

The talent-heavy party was far from a stereotypical Hollywood night out, but then again, the #DGMillennials are all about breaking stereotypes.
