“She’s a witch.”
Frances Bean Cobain's latest antic proves she's just as rebellious as her grunge-rock parents Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain.
Over the weekend, the 24-year-old took to Instagram to share that she had defaced her own Marc Jacobs billboard, the one that's situated above the designer's Melrose Place boutique in Los Angeles. The original image from the black-and-white ad campaign, photographed by David Sims for Jacobs' spring 2017 collection, has Cobain posing in a long-sleeve baby doll dress. Now, the image has a giant head covering her face with the words, “witch, witch, she's a witch,” spray painted in red over her dress.
“@abreealoren @illmagore just a couple of bandits leaving their mark,” Cobain said of recruiting her pals, creative consultant Abreea Loren and artist Illma Gore, to graffiti the billboard.
Jacobs has no problem with the new masterpiece, making us wonder if the whole thing was planned. (Strategic tagging, perhaps?) The label even posted a nicely edited video of Cobain and her crew transforming the billboard into another art project. Jacobs enlisted Cobain to front his spring campaign because “her beauty, uniqueness and strength is something I have long admired and respected.”
This isn't the first time the Cobain-Love household has defaced the designer's creations.
When Jacobs sent his infamous 1992 Perry Ellis grunge collection (the one that got him fired) to the couple who inspired it, Kurt and Courtney, they did what any self-respecting rock stars would do. “Marc sent me and Kurt [Cobain] his Perry Ellis grunge collection. Do you know what we did with it? We burned it. We were punkers — we didn't like that kind of thing.” Love told WWD in 2010. (Like mother, like daughter?)
No hard feelings though, because Jacobs asked Love to star in his fall 2016 campaign.
