Florals for spring have never looked so original.
The Dress: A single-shoulder burnt orange floral style with cascading asymmetrical ruffle detail from Johnny Coca's fall 2017 collection for Mulberry.
The Wearer: First time Cannes Film Festival attendee, supermodel Amber Valletta.
The Event: The May 18 premiere of Wonderstruck, where Valletta was joined by Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams and T.J. Miller on the carpet.
Why It Matters: British heritage brand Mulberry, founded in 1971, is known primarily for leather goods — the company's bread and butter — not red carpet ensembles. But the brand has been on trying to push more into ready to wear the past few seasons since Johnny Coca joined as the new creative director in 2015, bringing experience from both Louis Vuitton and Celine.
Valletta's look was at once edgy yet still quintessentially British with its oversize floral pattern and the addition of a regal diamond choker necklace. It helps of course, that the rose gold color beautifully complemented Valletta's own blue-green eyes and warm complexion. It was a bold fashion risk on one of the most high-fashion carpets of the year.
Coca has been met with mixed reviews since taking the reins at the fashion house, but should he deliver more stunners like this one, that could change.
